www (Wood Wide Web)

This “forest internet” or “wood wide web” is a network beneath the ground, formed by roots and microorganisms.

Trees are connected through complex relationships between their roots and certain fungi with which they live in symbiosis—they are good friends. Through these relationships they share wisdom and nutrients, care for one another and communicate, from the smallest tree to the largest.

Suzanne Simard

Professor of Forest Ecology at the University of British Columbia) published an article 25 years ago entitled “Net transfer of carbon between ectomycorrhizal tree species in the field”. In reference to this article, published in Nature, the term was coined: “wood wide web”.

No moment in the world is too small. Nothing should be lost. Everything has a purpose, and everything needs care.Suzanne Simard

The network beneath our feet

Much like our neurons

Once again, we see similarities across different expressions of the Universe, from tiny neurons to vast galaxies, through fascinating forests. We share patterns.

Once again, we see connection between what appears disconnected. We have become accustomed to thinking and feeling ourselves separate from everything around us. When we think and feel more deeply and consciously, we see otherwise.

What we do here—every breath, idea and action—influences others and touches the cosmos.
