It turns out that plants not only offer us food, oxygen, well-being, textiles, wood and fuel, and make our surroundings beautiful… they also communicate with us!
And they offer important messages, with revelations that are personal to each of us. Someone else may receive a similar message, but it will be different, because every relationship is unique.
Months ago, Olive (Olea europaea) shared with me that it could help with matters of lineage. When I explore this theme in meditation, it appears, and I feel the work become more powerful yet gentle.
Yesterday I spoke with a woman from Argentina who facilitates family constellations, and she shared her own ‘madness’. She received a message that Olive would help her with something in her lineage—generations of wandering—because it ‘anchors roots’. She planted it and felt its energy help her move beyond this ancestral situation from a place of deep forgiveness.
The information exists. It is there, and plants have waited patiently for thousands of years to share it with us.
As Juan Pablo Ruiz, who teaches a beautiful course in Alchemical Herbalism, says: ‘This is the promise of green for those with the courage and heart to follow this path—not along trails marked by human footsteps, but through the undergrowth that shelters the earth and whispers stories just for you.’
Soon this may no longer sound like ‘madness’. It may become ordinary again, as it once was. We will remember and reconnect, and new relationships and medicines will emerge from there.
